This partnership will also open future collaboration opportunities, including shared communications, joint outreach to the security community, and a referral pathway for organizations seeking red team services beyond Arachne’s core offerings.
Wellington, New Zealand – August 14, 2025 — Arachne Digital is a New Zealand based cyber security startup advancing open-source cyber threat intelligence(CTI). Black Mirage is a U.S based red teaming and offensive security firm. Together they announce a newly established global strategic partnership in a shared step forward to increase capacity for cyber defense across industries. This is the start of networking together organizations that can provide threat informed defense (TID) through three core pillars: gathering threat intelligence, building threat defensive measures, and testing the developed defenses.
Arachne Digital’s open-source platform, Thread, processes cyber threat data from news sources, blogs, and public reports. It maps the Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) to MITRE ATT&CK, allowing for the identification of vulnerabilities and how best to defend against them to reduce cyber security risks. Paired with Arachne’s proprietary API, the information processed by Arachne Digital allows for ease in analysis, research, and implementation of defense.
Carson Owlett, Black Mirage CEO, leads a red-team with high-quality credentials and certifications. The Black Mirage team has experience in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA) and with Small Business Innovation Research(SBIRs). Founded in 2019, Black Mirage is known for its focus on red team operations and offensive strategy. They will use intelligence gained through Arachne’s service to enhance simulation realism, threat emulation, and client advisory services.
Through this partnership, Black Mirage will gain full access to Arachne Digital’s global CTI dataset, regularly updated reports, and MITRE ATT&CK®-mapped intelligence via API. This fulfills one of the three pillars of TID, gathering threat intelligence. Black Mirage will provide real-world red team applications, fulfilling another point by testing developed defenses.
“We’re excited to work with Black Mirage. Their expertise in offensive security will be invaluable in shaping how our intelligence is used on the ground. Together, we’re bringing threat-informed defense to life.”
— Kade Morton, Founder of Arachne Digital
“We are looking forward to utilizing Arachne Digital’s threat intelligence to enhance our adversarial emulation capabilities. The boost in efficiency will drive better results for our clients. .”
— Carson Owlett, Founder of Black Mirage
This partnership will also open future collaboration opportunities including shared communications, joint outreach to the security community, and a referral pathway for organizations seeking red team services beyond Arachne’s core offerings. It is the start of building partnerships that encourage collaborative approaches to fully encompass the three pillars of thread informed defense.
As both companies grow, the collaboration sets a strong foundation for joint innovation in cyber security defense and for making open-source intelligence more accessible and actionable.
